    Roadbook

You start from the Sils Maria Posta bus stop towards the village center. At the height of the Nietzsche House, you will find on the left side of the road the first sign of the well-marked route to the Marmorè ridge.

You walk through the front garden of the Nietzsche House and find on the right side of the house the connection with the hiking trail that immediately climbs behind the house. You then walk through a slightly flatter marshy area to a junction of paths. Here you continue straight into the forest and take the ascending path.

At the next junction, you again go straight. The path continues to rise steadily. Where a path joins from the left, you keep right. The wooded area becomes sparser, the ridge gradually comes into view... a bench invites you to a well-deserved break in an overwhelming setting. Val Fex and the lakes of the Engadin lie at your feet.

From now on, you continue further into the valley, following the 'red-white' marked and arrow-indicated route.

You walk along one of the most beautiful 'flower trails' in the area... Edelweiss, Gentian, Turk's Lily, ... and many more you will encounter on this route (depending on the time of year). At the T-junction, take a sharp right and walk under a steep rock wall to the houses of Vanchera. Here you turn left and take the wide road towards Platta to the next T-junction, where you turn right and follow the arrow signs to Sils.

At the next fork, choose the path that turns left and brings you back to Sils Maria via the 'Gorge'.

    Variant:

In Vanchera, you can take a right and at the junction of paths turn left. At the next path junction, continue straight. This is a shorter route and a part of the outbound route that ends behind the Nietzsche House.

    Book recommendation by the author

Sils Maria is also known for the Nietzsche House. The German philosopher, philologist, and poet Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 - 1900) stayed there during the summer of 1881 and during the summers from 1883 to 1888. He likely contemplated here on, among other things, ‘Thus Spoke Zarathustra.’
