Cool tip for hot days

With its rock walls and numerous waterfalls, the Stillensteinklamm is one of the major scenic attractions of the Danube region. At the massive rock roof of the "Steinerne Stube" the stream was once buried by a rockfall ("Stiller Stein"). Today, only the rumbling of the water masses squeezing through the depths can be heard. At the wellness oasis Aumühle, the northernmost point of our hike, you can take a good rest before starting the return journey via the Jägersteig.

From the Danube parking lot at the old mill, follow a good path between towering rock blocks into the Gießenbach valley. In the narrowing valley, walk on the wooden walkway attached to the left rock wall over the stream around a river bend and through the forest up to the junction of a cart track. Now continue the hiking trail uphill through the valley and over a bridge to the eastern stream bank. There, climb steeply over steps along the sparkling water to the rockfall zone of the Steinerne Stube and the Stillen Stein, 380 m (junction of the Jägersteig), a rock-covered resting place where the stream is buried for about 300 meters by a rockfall. The valley continues laboriously uphill over rock blocks to the junction of the direct access from Grein (arrow) and then on a comfortable path to an idyllic reservoir. At first on the west bank, then to the east bank (bridge) and there to a service road. Follow it briefly to the left, to the bridge over the Gießenbach, just before it turn
