Magnificent high trail along the forest border

Along the flanks of the northern Fallasch ridge, an attractive route runs consistently above the 2000-meter line through the terrain. It is marked as »Almweg« (or Sentiero delle malghe) on maps and will receive a geographical addition in our description. Stilfs is the village whose alpine surroundings you are practically moving through the entire time. Indeed, the Upper Stilfser Alm can be regarded as the main destination, as you should not miss out on enjoying the culinary delights offered there. About an hour's walk later, we want to then leave the Almweg to descend to Stilfs via the Lichtenbergscharte. Those who wish to continue following the hillside route can theoretically do so up to the Glurnser Alm, which would keep you busy for about two and a half hours – not counting the final descent...

After the ride with the chairlift, we start at the Furkelhütte on the broad service road heading east. Initially, a few altitude meters are lost going around the ridge. Then you do not orient towards the Prader Alm but keep left going upwards. In the fall line of Piz Minschuns, the broad gravel road becomes a path that crosses several gullies on the eastern flank in a curve. Gradually, you gain height and reach a pronounced terrain ledge at point 2265, where benches invite you to take a scenic rest. Continuing, we now turn down into the basin of the Stilfser Almen and encounter a farm road again, which will take us in a few minutes to the refreshment station of the Upper Stilfser Alm, 2077 m.Above the hut, the Almweg again begins a longer traverse. We proceed slightly up and down through sparse forest until the marking No. 11/12A, together with a path coming down from the Munwarter, turns right downhill with some switchbacks to approach the Lichtenbergscharte, 1833 m. Profile picture of Mark Zahel Author Mark Zahel
