In the far northeast of Upper Franconia, on the border with Saxony and the Czech Republic, lies the Fichtelgebirge Nature Park, which was founded in 1971 and was once part of the so-called border zone area. To the south lies the smaller Steinwald Nature Park. Both regions are connected by the Höhenweg in the Fichtelgebirge and the Steinwaldweg. Combining these long-distance hiking trails creates a varied multi-day tour from Schwarzenbach an der Saale to Waldsassen. The route leads over scenic high ridges, through dense forests, past distinctive rock formations and cozy huts. Recommended stages range from Waldsteinhaus via Weißenstadt, Seehaus and Silberhaus to Kösseinehaus and further to Mitterteich and Waldsassen. The tour combines nature experience, tranquility and cultural impressions into an impressive hiking adventure.
