The Steinplan forms the western end of the gentle Gleinalpe. It is only 1670 m high, but the path to the summit is thrilling because many sections run along the forest edge and therefore offer a beautiful view! In addition, we cross several extensive alpine and meadow areas, which give us a wide, superb mountain panorama. At the summit, we are greeted by the Steinplan Hut. Not far from it stands the summit cross, and a huge plateau serves as a natural platform to admire the view: The panorama from Knittelfeld's local mountain includes Stubalpe, Koralpe, Karawanken, Zirbitzkogel, Hochalmspitze, Seckauer and Eisenerz Alps, Schöckl, Wildoner Berg, and much more! For the descent, we choose the ascent route, as it is more scenic and also shorter than path No. 522 via the forest road to Knittelfeld-Gobernitz.
The starting point for the ascent to Knittelfeld's local mountain is the parking lot at Gasthof Hoffelner, 626 m. We walk just a few meters west on Stubalpenstraße and then turn left (signpost "Naturfreundehaus Steinplan"). Initially identical with the Apfelberger Panoramaweg, it goes uphill via forest road on path No. 02. Before passing the property of the distinctively decorated organic beekeeping farm on the right, a short detour of a few meters left along a forest road to the meadow is worthwhile to enjoy the view to the Seckauer Alps at the panorama board, 821 m. Shortly after the organic beekeeping farm, we leave the forest and after a long left curve reach the farm group Sattelbauer, 915 m, via a wide, scenic meadow. From there on the forest road through open woods to the "’s 12er Platzl" (blue sign on a tree), then uphill along the "Via Alpina." Time and again free views into the Murtal valley and to the neighboring mountains! Grassy forest roads and paths alternate in
