The armored ditch near Steinfeld is located between the sports field at the southern edge of Steinfeld and the Bienwald. An earlier section was filled in, for which a compensation area was created and a lake connected to the remaining ditch. The ditch, which is still about 890 m long today, runs 580 m to the forest edge, bends about 45° there, and runs a further 230 m in an east-west direction through the forest. At the end is a wall, presumably for bank stabilization or to prevent water loss. Later the ditch was extended by 60 m, with a narrow section and a 90° bend to complicate bypassing. Previously, it was secured with infantry obstacles and barbed wire, the remains of which are visible depending on the water level. Today the armored ditch is a valuable biotope and habitat for numerous animal species such as slow worms and Canada geese.
