Hiking the Steigerwald loop "Serpent Path" through lonely forests, admiring untouched canyons, and discovering a wild romantic stream valley.
From the parking lot at the Marswald playground, the path initially leads through forest and fields to the Renner Cross, which commemorates Forester Johann Renner, who was shot here by poachers in 1768. It continues through the quiet forest, soon only on a narrow path steeply downhill, until wider forest roads bring the hiker to the upper entrance of the Serpent Path again. The fascinating path gets its name from the many untouched canyons and gorges it snakes around or past. Caution, this path is quite muddy after rainfall, and fallen trees sometimes have to be overcome, so it is only suitable for sure-footed hikers. The effort is rewarded by the classic trail on the northern edge of the Steigerwald with ever new views of primeval and partly almost jungle-like valley cuts. At its lower end, and thus at the edge of the wine-growing village of Zell, another highlight of the hike awaits in the Marsbach valley. Through a wild romantic landscape, it slowly goes back uphill to the starting point, where the seating at the playground invites you to a final picnic.
