Steigerwald Loop: Main Panorama

This tour of almost 13 kilometers offers plenty of variety. From the parking lot at the Main riverside, follow the signposted access path up the 365 steps of the historic castle stairs, restored in 1985 by the local heritage association, to the tower of the former Wallburg. Here at the landmark of the town of Eltmann, the actual circular route begins. In good weather on Sundays and holidays, the tower keeper opens the doors and you can enjoy the view from above over the entire Main valley. A QR code on the tower also allows those not afraid of heights or in poor visibility to immerse themselves in the panoramic views. A panorama swing lets you fly over the Main valley. After the worthwhile stay at the Wallburg, a high route with beautiful views of the Main valley and the Haßberge leads you to the Fourteen Helper Saints Chapel, which invites you to a small break before you walk down to Eschenbach, which is especially known for its brewery. Then you can enjoy the river panorama once again before the trail turns just before Dippach and leads into the northern forests of the Steigerwald. Accompanied by mighty oaks and beeches, you reach the Weisbrunn hunter’s lodge, which offers an ideal place for a break with its seating. After leaving the forest, the hiker is rewarded with a beautiful view of the town of Eltmann; the Donkey Fountain is also worth discovering before the tower of the Wallburg approaches again. The known access path takes you back down into the town, which with its winding old town alleys is definitely worth exploring.
