This hike leads us to the foot of the White Mountains in southwest Crete. From the lonely mountain village Livanianá, we descend to the bay of Fínix, where in antiquity the harbor of the Roman and later Byzantine city Phoinix was located. On the small peninsula that separates Fínix and the bay of Loutró, we then visit the impressive ruins of a Venetian fortress. From there, we can already look down on Loutró – a Cretan village like from a picture book. The whitewashed houses with blue shutters nestle against the white shining beach, a few boats lie in the turquoise water, and cozy tavernas invite you to rest right on the shore. From Loutró, we then ascend along the steep coast to the chapel Agia Ekaterini near Anópolis, which crowns a hill and offers us a magnificent view of the coast and the White Mountains. Finally, it goes down again through rocky terrain back to Livanianá.
