The Karren is the local mountain of Dornbirn in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg. Before the hike from the top station via Staufensee reservoir and Rappenloch Gorge, the Karrenkante entices with a selfie point for a spectacular panoramic view. The Karrenkante is a 12-meter long viewing platform framed with glass and metal that extends beyond the rock edge at the top station of the Karrenseilbahn. The walking surface made of grating adds extra fresh air feeling. The hiking trail first leads through the forest and down to the Staufensee reservoir before shortly entering the spectacular Rappenloch Gorge. In May 2011, a rockfall occurred there which caused the gorge to be closed. For over two years, the Rappenloch Gorge could no longer be crossed on foot. Today, one walks again on a well-secured footbridge high above the gorge along a rock wall – thrilling views downwards are guaranteed.
