Unlike the common Andechs routes, this one does not start down in Herrsching or Hechendorf, but much further east, at Lake Starnberg, and leads as a considerable hiking trail with only two villages in between to Andechs. Appropriately, it is largely identical to the route of the Munich Way of St. James, which adds an extra long-distance hiking or pilgrimage aspect to the tour. From the starting point to the end, a wide range of natural and cultural impressions is offered: starting with the lake and the castle in Starnberg, followed by the beautiful riverside path along the Maisinger Brook through the Maisinger Gorge, then the Maisinger Lake, quiet passages through moorland and forests, and finally, of course, with the Holy Mountain of Andechs as the highlight.
Coming from the underpass of Starnberg station, we turn left onto the street (»Bahnhofplatz«). Those who want to take the fastest way to the Maisinger Gorge follow it through the right curve and go straight uphill on Bahnhofstraße, crossing the main road and along Söckinger Straße towards Söcking up to Maisinger-Schlucht-Straße, where the hiking trail begins. However, it is worth first going up to Starnberg Castle: To do this, we keep left at Bahnhofplatz and immediately turn right into Wittelsbacherstraße. After 130 m, we turn left before the church and go up to the main road. Slightly shifted to the left, we go steeply up stairs on Dr.-Penzl-Weg, then turn right and continue uphill over stairs to the castle complex, on whose southeast side we walk along the wall with beautiful views of Lake Starnberg. Finally, we can cross the castle garden to the west side and go downhill southwest on Schlossbergstraße, where we meet Söckinger Straße. We follow it to the right for 450 m and then
