Stadtpark, 60 ha in size and traversed by the Wienfluss, is a green area in the city center much frequented by walkers. Monuments, rare tree species, an idyllic pond, and many small animals are the main reasons for its attractiveness. The surroundings are no less exclusive: several palaces, the Kursalon, the Konzerthaus, and the main mint office are within sight. We walk from Stadtpark through less frequented alleys towards the city until we feel the pulsating life of the city on Kärntner Straße. In front of the sky-high Stephansdom tower, we sense something of the centuries-old significance of this church, the heart of the federal capital Vienna.
From the transport hub Wien Mitte, walk along Landstraßer Hauptstraße towards the city, clearly defined by the towering Steffl (St. Stephen's Cathedral). Even before the Ring, we find an entrance to Stadtpark on the left at Weiskirchnerstraße, which is located in front of the densely built-up Vienna city center. Opposite the Museum of Applied Arts, we enter Stadtpark. Well-maintained walking paths open up the park, which was opened in 1862. At the Zelinka monument, a pond frequented by water birds spreads out. On the Ring side, you encounter monuments to Schubert, Amerling, and Makart. Continuing towards Kursalon, the rare and exotic trees stand out. The Kursalon, designed in the Renaissance style, is a meeting place for fans of classical music and Viennese gemütlichkeit. On the side of the Wienfluss stands the Johann Strauss monument, especially popular with tourists from Asia.
