St. Steben, 1003 m
On a clearing in the steep south slope of the Graslitzen stands the filial and pilgrimage church "St. Stephen Pope", first mentioned in documents in 1466. It is dedicated to Saint Stephen, who was pope from 254 to 257. The church and the neighboring "Stebnarhaus" were heavily damaged by the earthquakes of 1976. Families still lived in this house until a few decades ago who were responsible for the fire watch of the surrounding villages: in case of alarm, they rang the church bells. The church was restored, and at the site of the former Stebnarhaus, a local architect built a beautiful farmhouse.
From the federal road in Förolach, we go past the church through the village to the north. After a few minutes, we reach a road junction with a fountain and numerous signposts. Our path towards St. Steben is number 56. Before a large gravel pit, 660 m, we turn right. On a small hill, at a fork with WW, 700 m, we leave the driving path to the left onto a initially wide forest path. Soon the path becomes a narrow trail that steeply leads over a ridge descending from the Geißrücken. To our left, we see a wild ravine with steep rock walls. We come to a small meadow with a wayside shrine and a bench; the beautiful view invites a rest. Now it is only about 15 more minutes to the church of St. Steben, 1003 m. The view from here stretches far into the Gailtal, to Pressegger Lake with its broad reed belt and to the mountains in the south. To the east, the mighty Dobratsch dominates the panorama. Next to the church stands a new house with a bench in front. You hardly want to leave this beautiful
