The mountain village of St. Michael, located west below the Panider Saddle, boasts a remarkable artistic gem in its church, partially dating back to the Romanesque period, with charming frescoes on the exterior walls. Right next door, the St. Michael restaurant offers a much-appreciated, typical South Tyrolean dining experience. You can start the hike here or as described below at the Panider Saddle. The advantage is that you pass by the attractions of the tour, the "Bear Trap" and the idyllic Michaeler pond nestled in the forest, right from the start. Of course, we first refresh ourselves at the lowest point of the loop at the "Michaeler Wirt" and enjoy the wonderful panorama from the garden terrace, which stretches across the Mendel to the Ortler group.
From the parking lot at the Panider Saddle, we walk 50 m north along the hotel driveway at the forest edge to the LS 64. We cross it and follow the forest road leading left on the other side to a fork. We hike on the upper road (trail no. 10A) gently uphill northwest through the forest to the Panider meadows with some private houses and continue in the forest to a junction. Now half right on the natural forest road (no. 10A), passing the Latschhof, briefly over a meadow (deep view of Kastelruth, behind it Brenta, Presanella, Adamello, and Ortler groups), then through the forest to the "Bear Trap," 1473 m ("Trappola d’orso"), just right above the path. We continue straight on the natural road no. 10A, passing moss-covered porphyry blocks where many blueberries can be found, then gently downhill until the path turns 90 degrees left. Soon it goes steeper downhill southwest, later reaching the north shore of the Michaeler pond, 1381 m, where trail no. 10 joins from the left. Here straight
