"That's just how it is here; it makes me cry
even though I’m a grown man, Karl.”
That’s how Aasmund Olavsson Vinje described it in 1860 when he reached the highest point of Vårstigen—Tingsvaet. Take a trip along the old trail through Drivdalen, and let yourself be impressed just as the old poet was.

The hike begins at Gammelholet, 3 kilometers north of Kongsvoll Fjeldstue. All the way to Tingsvaet, you’ll follow the trail up the hillside through an idyllic birch forest. Along the entire length of Vårstigen, there are information signs providing details about the places you pass.
When you reach Tingsvaet, you’ll be at the highest point of the hike—1,000 meters above sea level. The landscape in Drivdalen is magnificent. The view from Tingsvaet is particularly stunning—this is the old assembly site where the “Oplendinger” and “Trøndere” met to discuss matters of concern to them.
From here, the terrain levels out as you continue toward Drivstusætra. Perhaps this is a good spot for a rest break?
The next leg leads to Vårstigåa, and the climb gets steeper. From here, you’ll head down Mærrabakken; it’s fairly steep before you reach the parking lot at Nestavollan. If you don’t want to walk back, it’s a good idea to have a car here to drive back to Gammelholet.
Directions
Drive along the E6 to Øvre Drivdalen and park at the starting point of the Vårstigen trail. There is a dedicated parking lot here.Coordinates
