On this full-day hike, experienced hikers can explore the Granatspitz Group and follow in the footsteps of those who crossed the Tauern Mountains. Of particular interest are the so-called “Schalensteine”—circular, palm-sized indentations that resemble small bowls and can be found scattered among the rock slabs near the summit. At the Hintere Ochsenalm, Tyrolean mountain sheep can be seen everywhere; they are brought there every year by farmers for summer grazing.

The trail leads steeply upward through alpine pastures and after Kalser Tauernhaus
alder thickets, along the “Stotz” waterfall to the Stotzboden. There, above the
tree line, a vast high alpine pasture opens up, dotted with alpine rose bushes and mossy patches.
Passing striking rock formations, the trail leads to the summit of the Spinevitrol, a
glacier-shaped, rounded peak facing the Großglockner. Deep below lies the Dorfersee,
and to the north, the Kalser Tauern mountain range is visible.

Equipment
Basic equipment for mountain hiking includes sturdy hiking boots with a good tread, a 30-35 liter backpack, and functional clothing based on the layering principle, including sufficient spare clothes. Essential items are rain, cold, and sun protection, adequate fluids and food, as well as a first-aid kit and a charged mobile phone. A map or a GPS device supports orientation.
The information serves as a guideline and does not claim to be exhaustive. Equipment must always be adapted to the planned route, weather conditions, season, natural hazards, environmental influences, and personal needs.
