The Sperlingstein (Vrabinec), a striking, three-pronged rock, is located south of Děčín high above the Elbe. The black basalt rocks with their rubble fields provide a habitat for special warmth-loving plants and some rare animal species, and are therefore protected as a nature reserve. We enjoy the view over the Elbe valley and explore the last wall remains of a medieval castle complex. A pleasant hike through forests, meadows, and overgrown orchards rounds off this excursion.
From the parking lot at the Elbe cycle path, we walk upstream along the Elbe (in a southern direction). After 500 m, at low water, we can discover one of the so-called Hunger Stones (Hladový kámen) on the bank. Carved years remind of previous low water levels. Shortly afterwards, we turn left towards Vrabinec, cross the country road and follow the side street into the small village of Přední Lhota. We go straight uphill along the narrow road. About 10 minutes after the railway crossing, we take the hiking trail marked with a red stripe to the left uphill. The dark, three-pronged Sperlingstein is already visible above us. The path goes steeply uphill. In front of a covered rest area with information about Sperlingstein, a path branches off to the right towards the summit. The trail ends in a notch between two rock towers and already offers a fantastic view of the Elbe valley from here.
