Southern Austrian Pilgrimage Route, 3rd stage from Lebring to Leibnitz (based on Peter Lindenberg's idea)

The stages are short, easy, and accessible by public transport both at the start and the end point.

Peter Lindenthal, a veteran of the Pilgrimage Route pilgrims in Austria, first published a guide for a pilgrimage route through Southern Austria in 2002, last revised in 2007. This route follows adapted sections from Murberg to the Lebring-St. Margareten train station.

This part of the route is suitable for cyclists. Also passable for wheelchair users or prams, although with obstacles shortly before Leibnitz.

This description is based on experiences from December 2019/January 2020. Conditions on the path can always change! As author, I refer to individual responsibility.

The path is very well marked from the connection with the Pilgrimage Route and not to be missed along the Laßnitz.

The path is suitable for disabled persons and prams. Slightly difficult in the Leibnitz Au.

    Roadbook

We leave the Lebring train station and walk west along Bahnhofstraße. After 300 m, we turn into Sportplatzstraße, which we follow to L630. We cross the state road and walk along Grasäckerstraße to Kleinstangersdorfer Straße. From there, the path crosses the A9 motorway to Stangersdorf.
Along the way is the Zieglerwirt with good Styrian cuisine. Only 500 m further, the country inn Edler offers another stop.
In Stangersdorf, we turn right towards Laßnitz. Here, one of the interesting information boards describing the landscape and the people can be found. At the next intersection, the path goes left towards Lang. In Langaberg, we take the first turn right uphill, then go down the other side to the main road and continue to the Laßnitz bridge. Unfortunately, there is only asphalt up to this point.
After the bridge, you can go into the small village of Lang. The Schweinzger guesthouse focuses on regional cuisine and offers rooms for guests.

Right after the bridge, we turn right (marked with a scallop shell) and now follow the Laßnitz to its confluence with the Sulm. The path is used as an agricultural service road; joggers, riders, and of course hikers find their paradise on the gravel road. Pure nature!

Only in Tillmitsch do we have to return to the road and walk along Dorfstraße to the Laßnitz bridge. In the village, the Heusserer guesthouse offers a place to rest. Guest apartments are also available in the village.

We now walk on the west side of the Laßnitz on quiet paths until we reach the Grottenhof Nature Park Centre. There we cross the Laßnitz again and stay on the riverside path, which leads us past the mouth of the Laßnitz into the Sulm and ends at the Sulm bridge under Seggauberg Castle.

Now it goes straight to the town centre, initially to the Capuchin Church at the western end of the main square. Before that, you could already turn right to JUFA Leibnitz if you have booked accommodation there.

Past the town hall, you reach St. Jakob parish church at the eastern end of the main square.

Now it’s only 700 m more to the train station with connections to regional and long-distance trains (Graz, Spielfeld, Maribor)
