Sopron-Brennbergbanya-Helenenschacht-Herrentisch-Rohrbach
From Brennbergbanya to the Austria-Hungary border and along it to Herrentisch. From there down to Rohrbach.
This hike is recommended in the colder season. Especially in January and February, as the view is less obstructed due to the bare trees during this time. A hike to also get a feeling of the era of the Iron Curtain.
To the starting point:
In Sopron, take bus numbers 1, 2, or 10 from the train station to the bus station (towards Jereván residential area), from there continue with bus number 3 (hourly) to Brennbergbánya.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.

Roadbook
From the starting point in Brennbergbánya, there are several options to reach the border. At least in Brennbergbanya, you will be accompanied by barking dogs. We have walked along the border several times. I recommend taking the red route on the map. From the Gruberkreuz, it follows the blue line for a stretch and then continues along the border again to Helenenschacht. The lookout tower on the Hoher Riegel offers a panoramic view far into the surrounding landscapes. Essentially, the path is mostly a forest road with branches that follow the ridge line between Austria and Hungary. From Herrentisch, the path descends on the Austrian side down to Rohrbach. The blue GPS track makes the hike only a bit longer, without any special highlights.
