A few minutes' walk from Sargenroth is the Nunkirche, a romantic pilgrimage church that was used as a film set in Edgar Reitz's Heimat epic. The "film graves" of the Simon family can be found on the burial ground of the small cemetery near the old cemetery wall.
Not far away is the Bismarck Tower, built during the Wilhelmine era. It was intended to be an "honorary monument as a symbol of gratitude and loyalty". A 17.50 meter high tower made of Soonwald quartzite with two open staircases and a viewing platform was built according to plans by Dresden architect Wilhelm Kreis. The tower was officially opened in 1902. The meadows between the Nunkirche church and the Bismarck Tower have been designated a nature reserve.
At the Sargenrother Waldjugendherberge, an adventure trail leads further into the valley. Nature lovers will find absolute tranquillity in the Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park on the route back to Mengerschied.
The trail has been certified by the German Hiking Institute with 66 adventure points.

Roadbook
We have a wonderful view over the Simmerbach valley as far as the Idarkopf. The path leads us along a hedge strip to the Gartenbach. From here, there is an access route to the Hunsrück Cathedral in Ravengiersburg. We continue walking slightly uphill, past meadows and pastures in the direction of Sargenroth. The romantic Nunkirche church and the old trees are a landmark of the Hunsrück. In the immediate vicinity, we reach the Bismarck Tower, which offers wonderful views of the Hunsrück landscape and Soonwald forest.
The route crosses the L 162 country road and leads to the Sargenroth forest youth hostel. We follow the route of an "adventure trail" downhill through the forest districts of Forst and Bachberg to the Brühlbach stream. A wooden footbridge takes us to the other side of the stream, where we cross the Schinderhannes-Soonwald cycle path and continue along the railroad line, which was decommissioned in 1964, through the Layenkaul district back to Mengerschied. Here it is worth making a detour to the "Hohe Klopp" viewpoint.
