The short circular route is also suitable in bad weather.
A small circular route with a good view into the Stillupptal, of the Kasseler Hütte, and to the further route to the Greizer Hütte. This route can also be done in not-so-good weather.
Author’s recommendation
The circular route can also be done after the ascent from the Stillupptal to the Kasseler Hütte.

Roadbook
We do not ascend to the Sonntagskar counterclockwise as indicated by the signpost at the Kasseler Hütte, but instead descend towards the Edelhütte, pass the junction leading down to the Stillupptal, and then ascend slightly again after crossing the Sonntagskarbach on a bridge. At 2,210 meters altitude, we leave the path to the Edelhütte, turn right to climb up to 2,380 meters. Here we turn right again into the Sonntagskar. We pass the junction to the Sonntagskarkopf (marked) and then go, first south, then southwest, back to the Kasseler Hütte.

Public transport
Mayrhofen in the Zillertal is very well accessible by public transport. From Kassel, the travel time is approximately 7 to 8 hours.
For example, it is recommended to travel by train via Munich (main station), on long-distance trains to Jenbach station (Austria). From there, regular buses or the Zillertalbahn to Mayrhofen operate. In Mayrhofen (station), you can easily take a taxi or, during the season, the hiking taxi (companies Kröll or Thaler) from Europahaus in the town center to Gasthaus Wasserfall. There are also some parking spaces for visitors arriving by car at Gasthaus Wasserfall. The access road is toll-based (2013: 7.00 EUR), parking so far free.
From Gasthaus Wasserfall, you can either start on foot towards Grüne Wand Hut or use the popular shuttle transfer to Grüne Wand Hut. Transfer buses run very frequently and regularly during the season.
From Grüne Wand Hut, you continue only on foot; although the path is still designed as an asphalt road, it ends at the material cableway to the Kasseler Hütte and is not accessible for public traffic (about 2 hours walking time).
