Tips and suggestions
The starting and finishing points of this hike are different!
My recommendation: Park a bike at the finish point (chapel above Gleiss/Baichberg), then drive to the starting point (behind the VOESTALPINE-Halle Bruckbach/Böhlerwerk). Park the car there.
After the tour, one person cycles back to the car and then cycles back to Gleiss.
Roadbook
We start on the cycle path behind the VOESTALPINE Precision Strip hall (where a high-voltage power line comes down from the mountain at the back).
After a few metres we pass a chapel. The route climbs eastwards in hairpin bends.
At an altitude of 660 metres, we come to the Steinernes Kreuz rest area, where the marked ascent from Böhlerwerk joins from the right. Continue eastwards (follow the markings uphill) to the basilica on the Sonntagberg.
A church worth seeing and a very beautiful vantage point.
We start the descent on the east side of the church and walk along the ridge past the cemetery, come to a children's playground and continue to Höhenstraße. Continue briefly, then turn sharp left on the other side of the road and down to Türkenbründl.
From Türkenbründl, head westwards, initially ascending briefly, then first follow the path signposted to Rosenau. Where this leads out onto an alpine meadow, we stay in the forest and descend further in the Stiftwald (the path is only signposted in the opposite direction). Steeper at first, then flatter through the forest. We pass the "Weißes Kreuz" chapel and shortly afterwards leave the forest at a chapel just before the first houses in Baichberg.
From here it is possible to cycle, otherwise continue downhill to the main road. In Baichberg, either continue in the same direction to Hilm-Kematen railway station or take the main road down to Gleiß and before crossing the railway, turn left along the cycle path to Rosenau railway station.
Public transport
Public-transport-friendly
The starting point of the hike is 0.7 km south of the Sonntagberg (Bruckbach) stop and 1.1 km north-west of the Böhlerwerk stop (Rudolfsbahn between Amstetten and Waidhofen/Y.)
The end point is 1.9 km north of Hilm-Kematen station and 1.7 km north-west of Rosenau station.
Directions
Motorway exit A 1 Amstetten West.
Take the B 121 to Bruckbach. Before crossing the Ybbs (or before Böhlerwerk), turn left and look for a car park near the junction.
Coming from the south (Waidhofen/Ybbs), cross the Ybbs after Böhlerwerk and turn right immediately after the bridge.
