The starting point is the train station in Berchtesgaden, from where we take the bus with one transfer (Hochkalter stop) to the Zipfhäusl stop. Here we cross the parking lot and then follow the path that shortly afterwards branches off to the right. After a few meters, we cross a small waterfall on a bridge. We follow the partially quite wide path and then shorten a few meters by going through an old, original preserved tunnel. The path passes an information display that informs about the Sole pipeline path, its origin, course, and the wooden pipelines that were laid and partly still exist. Along the way, we can repeatedly see wooden pipes slightly sticking out of the ground. Even though the path leads through the forest, we repeatedly have a nice view of Ramsau and the surrounding mountains, and a few curves later we can also look into the Wimbach valley. At the Gerstreit inn, we walk across the terrace to get back into the forest, where it goes very shelteredly to the Söldenköpfl inn. Shortly before Söldenköpfl, we have to tackle the only significant ascent encountered on the entire path. We go under the dining room and past the inn on the right to begin the descent on a gravel path with rather steep switchbacks. Because after some time the gravel path becomes an asphalt road, we decide, after a few meters, to take the signed alternative to Ilsank and therefore turn left. We follow the path, and at the farmhouse we reach, we take the path that passes on the left. After a few minutes, we arrive at a wooden hut where the path is no longer signed. However, we can still see that the path continues to the right of the hut. Apparently, this path is no longer maintained, which we notice during the descent, but with some surefootedness, we manage well and arrive in Ilsank. We go to the main road, keep right before crossing it, and then turn left onto the path along the Ramsauer Ache. The hiking path is signed up to the station, but the last section becomes an asphalted path that runs directly along the road. Instead of turning left onto the hiking path along the Ramsauer Ache, we could also have taken the bus to Berchtesgaden at the bus stop.
