No summit tour, no intoxicating panoramic views – we will no longer encounter smugglers either – but still a scenically attractive hike through meadows, forest, and a gorge that leaves a lasting and pleasant impression. For children and less experienced hikers, this small tour offers great impressions, and the turning point at the idyllic inn with a large beer garden, which dates back to a hermitage built in the 17th century, is likely to impress all visitors. The highlight of the tour is certainly crossing the suspension bridge at the Entenlochklamm, from where we can observe daring whitewater rafters. Also impressive is visiting the pilgrimage church Klobenstein (= split stone), because according to legend, once a woman was walking through this narrow valley when she was caught by a mudslide. As she desperately prayed to the Virgin Mary, a large stone split open, offering her shelter and saving her from certain death. These split stones are also said to have fertility-promoting abilities if one walks through them.
At the hiking parking lot near the Geigelsteinbahn in Ettenhausen, we head towards the southern end, go a few meters down to a forest road, which we follow downhill (to the left) for about 300 m; then we turn right onto a meadow path that leads us to a farm road coming directly from the center of town heading south, that is towards the Smuggler's Path. We keep right there (information boards) and follow the wide, comfortable farm road, which from here is closed to public traffic. It goes almost flat through farming meadows towards the south until, after 15 minutes, we reach a fork. Here we can make a detour to the Riederburger Lake and to a viewpoint (“Beautiful View”) above the Tiroler Ache. Continuing on the main path, we arrive through shady forest to a small bridge – a branch to Rudersburg. From here the path becomes narrower. Below to the left, we hear the rushing of the Tiroler Ache, pass the memorial plaque for a woodcutter who died in an accident, and enter increasingly steep
