Salt Mine Tour and a Walk Along the Canal

During the tour of the visitor mine in Bad Friedrichshall-Kochendorf, we take the elevator 180 meters down into the salt deposit. On the approximately two-hour underground tour, we learn how salt is mined and also see the necessary machines. To allow enough time for the salt mine tour, our subsequent hike along the Neckar is short.

From the visitor mine in Kochendorf, we cross the nearby Neckar canal at the lock, walk 200 m to the left along it, and then follow the right farm track to the bridge over the Neckar. Behind the bridge, we walk left on the narrow meadow path for 2 km along the river. On the way lies the plant-overgrown Willi-Drautz-Platz. The riverside path joins a gravel road further upstream, at the end of which we turn right. After 150 m, we go left past the »Rossmarkt« sports field to the L 1101 road. We follow this straight to the Neckar bridge at Neckarsulm and cross the river on the left. Before the canal, we keep left. On the narrow grass-covered path along the Neckar canal, we walk downstream back to the lock and return from there to the visitor mine.
