Small Mainz High Path stage 1: Laubenheim - Ebersheim
The 11.9 km long hiking trail is part of the Small Mainz High Path, which leads around the city of Mainz in the west with a total length of 33.6 km.
The hiking route starts at Mainz-Laubenheim station and runs along the heights above Bodenheim, Gau-Bischofsheim, and Harxheim to Mainz-Ebersheim. Roadbook
From Mainz-Laubenheim station on Oppenheimer Street, the marked path first leads through Laubenheimer Park and along a hollow way to the Erich-Koch reading bench. The reading bench offers a view over the flood protection polder between Mainz-Laubenheim and Bodenheim. Along the hike through the heights of the vineyards, the Bodenheimer Hoch and the Glockenberg hut offer scenic rest spots on the way.
From the Glockenberg hut, an EXTRATOUR to Bodenheim is accessible via marked paths.
The high path follows the panoramic trail above Gau-Bischofsheim. At the village’s edge, the section through Harxheim branches off at the street “Am Weingarten.”
The path through Harxheim is the newest part of the Small Mainz High Path and was marked by the local heritage and traffic association as an access path with the yellow DAV edelweiss sign. Other access paths lead into the town itself, and there is a connection to the panoramic trail, a 6 km long hiking trail around Harxheim.
On the way through the hilly landscape near Harxheim, with vineyards interrupted by islands of natural woodland, impressive sights for the hiker include the vineyard chapel and Schlossberg tower. Mainz-Ebersheim is reached via the “Harxheimer Weg.” The first stage ends in the town centre at the Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius.
