Selected alternatives for you
Short circular route with a steep climb in the southeastern end hut of the Bärenbrunner Valley. The route leads to beautiful rocks famous among climbers in the valley. The narrow paths are rarely used and are a good alternative when the other routes in the area are crowded.

This tour leads on narrow, little-used paths to some of the most beautiful rocks in the Bärenbrunner Valley. The tour is a bit "adventurous" because the paths can be hard to see depending on vegetation. However, you won't be walking in large groups, even when other routes in the valley are overcrowded. From the Bärenbrunner Hut, you first go steeply uphill along the Schanderie rock. The next highlights are the rock plateaus of Nonnenfels and Pfaffenfels, which offer a great view of the Bärenbrunner Valley and invite you to rest. After descending from Eichelberg, the route goes to Sandberg, to the foot of the Pfaffenfels and then to the particularly impressive Klosterfelsen. This last rock looks somewhat like the Matterhorn from a certain perspective. It is considered the climbing highlight of the Bärenbrunner Valley and has many renowned climbing routes where top climbers have tested themselves. Orientation: not signposted, partly very narrow paths, partially overgrown; those unfamiliar with the area need a GPS (!) or at least a map. Path types: 80% very narrow, little-used paths that can be overgrown depending on the vegetation period. The rest are forest roads. Catering: Bärenbrunnerhof guesthouse: http://baerenbrunnerhof.de
Author’s recommendation
Those who want to shorten the route and save about 100 meters in elevation can skip the access to the plateau of Pfaffenfels and Nonnenfels…

Pass to the right of the Bärenbrunner Hof to the Bärenbrunner Hut.
To the right of the hut, the path leads steeply uphill. You reach the Schanderie rock massif. To the right of the rock, it goes steeply uphill. If the path is not easy to see, simply climb to the right of the rock. At the top, it continues less steeply uphill until you reach a forest track.
Following this, you reach the junction to the Nonnenfels plateau (not signposted!). Return to the forest track. After 400 m the path splits. Take the left, which descends slightly. Shortly after, there is a branch to the Pfaffenfels plateau (not signposted). Return on the same path to the junction. Continue downhill until you meet a wide forest track in the valley. Turn sharp left onto it. Follow the path for about 350 m, then turn sharply left onto a barely visible path. Over a narrow trail then to the foot of the Pfaffenfels and Klosterfels rocks. From there a short path back to the starting point.
