At an elevation of just 200 to 300 meters, this hike takes you across a fascinating rocky landscape—smoothed bare by the inland ice sheet—known in Norwegian as “svaet.” The highlight is a waterfall cascading down the rock face. Standing at the top, you can enjoy the view down into the valley and out toward the North Sea. The open terrain invites you to linger, play, and have a picnic, making it ideal for hikers of all ages.
Alternative Route: Hike up Stiheia and Beinstadheia (3.3 km, 1.15 hours, 180 m elevation gain and 160 m elevation loss, “blue”)From the junction, we head uphill over the steep, bare rock to Lake Hornsvatnet. Here, we turn left and climb through dense heathland and sparse woodland up to Stiheia, where there is a viewing bench offering a vista over the terraced, eroded rock landscape with its lakes lying below. Back at Lake Hornsvatnet, we walk straight ahead across a wide rocky ridge, passing beneath the highest point of Beinstadheia. At the end of the Heia, we descend in a right-hand curve through a damp, densely birch-covered, transverse valley and re-emerge into open rocky terrain, where we meet the main trail at the fork.
