Levin Down is the largest chalk heathland in West Sussex. The nature reserve is home to some of the last remaining juniper trees on the South Downs. Singleton is another attractive, mainly flint, estate workers'village - only recently has any modern building taken place here. We climb across the panoramic slopes of Hat Hill, covered in wild flowers in summer, passing the isolated Downley Cottage in the heart of the Downs. We return through Singleton Forest, across Levin Down and back through the village to The Partridge Inn. Rating 3. Time 2h 15m. Distance 9kms. Ascents 280m. Descents 280m. Route Circular. Refreshments 3.
