Comparable to the magnificent final apotheoses in the symphonies of the Upper Austrian composer Anton Bruckner, the Dachstein, rising in dazzling glacier splendor above the southern Salzkammergut, forms the conclusion and highlight of the entire area. A trip to the high alpine region of the group is therefore an absolute "must" for experienced mountain hikers. The long hike from the Dachsteinbahn station Krippeneck-Gjaidalm over the karst plateau "Am Stein" to the Simony Hut is impressively beautiful and offers unforgettable views of the Hallstatt Glacier and Mount Dachstein. The tour is not difficult but exhausting. Mountaineering experience, endurance, and good weather are necessary.
After the ascent with the Dachstein-Krippenstein cable car from the valley station to the mountain station 2, continue with the cable car to the Dachsteinbahn station 3, descend briefly to the northwest on a forest road into a saddle with a crossing gravel road. This is 40 m to the left to a junction (straight ahead in 15 minutes to the Ghf. Gjaidalm located in a green doline depression) and then keep left on the road through mountain pines in bends upwards to the southwest to the military post Oberfeld, 1830 m. On path no. 650 and 654 westwards, past several branches, ups and downs over the mountain pine-covered karst plateau to an important junction, 1840 m. Here turn left on path no. 650 down southwards into a green hollow (Kreidgrube), then over karst rocks, past picturesque Swiss stone pines, continuing southwards, finally turning right (west) down into the hollow of the Taubenkar. Now over a very steep rocky ramp laboriously southwestwards up to the crossing "Reitweg" (no. 601)
