Stroll through the vineyards near Siebeldingen and enjoy the view of the sea of vines!
The route takes you through the “Im Sonnenschein” vineyards around Siebeldingen, offering numerous views of the vineyard landscape along the Southern Wine Route and the neighboring communities, and passes by the Geilweilerhof and the Julius Kühn Institute for Grapevine Breeding, which is located there. Be sure to take a look—or even make a quick detour—into the courtyard of the Geilweilerhof, provided the gates are open. The view from the pavilion in the garden area is especially worth seeing. At the wine shop here, you can buy not only standard wines but also new grape varieties not yet approved for sale, as well as experimental cultivars and hybrids—which you won’t find anywhere else!
UFFBASSE! — Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature
-
Be considerate while out and about —always act thoughtfully, friendly, and considerate toward everyone you meet along the way. This is especially important on farm roads, where winemakers, farmers, and foresters work even on weekends.
-
Picnics & Trash —Remember to bring a trash bag with you and take your trash home with you. Use only the designated rest areas with picnic tables for breaks and picnics.
-
Keep dogs on a leash—Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will appreciate it.
We—your fellow visitors and nature—appreciate it!

Every year on the last Sunday in August, the "Culinary Vineyard Hike" takes place here along this route. In 2014, the event was named the "Most Beautiful Wine Festival in the Palatinate"!

Safety information
Use of Farm Roads —Our tours through the vineyards often take us along paths that we share with others. We therefore ask that you be considerate and friendly toward others at all times. Winemakers, farmers, and foresters use these farm roads through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work—even on weekends. Due to work activities and/or weather conditions, the trails may be particularly muddy at times. Extra caution is also required when crossing roads in and around the Palatinate villages. Trail closures and detours must be strictly observed.
Dangerous Situations – Should an emergency arise, quick help is essential. And even though cell phones can transmit GPS signals, the traditional emergency points are often the fastest way to get help. These are located in places that are easily accessible to emergency vehicles. Make a note of the locations marked with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return to one of these locations and provide the number on the sign when you call for help. This way, emergency responders will know where to find you.

Roadbook
The route starts at the train station in Siebeldingen-Birkweiler. Just follow the orange trail markers. They’ll lead you to the entrance of the Nah & Gut supermarket. Walk past the supermarket and cross the Queich River. After a short stretch along the edge of town, you’ll find yourself immersed in the sea of vines at the “Siebeldinger Im Sonnenschein” vineyard.
Now the trail climbs steadily uphill, past the small rest area by the pergola with a view of the neighboring village of Albersweiler. After a short break, continue up through the vineyards. Soon you’ll see the tower of the Geilweilerhof peeking out on your right. Once you reach the highest point, you can take another short break on a bench with a beautiful view. The route now runs parallel to Albersweiler’s “Schmunzelweg” for a short stretch . The signs invite you to pause briefly, read, and smile.
Now, under the shade of the trees, the path leads directly to the Geilweilerhof—the Julius Kühn Institute for Grapevine Breeding. Around the Geilweilerhof, numerous signs along the grapevine nature trail provide information about grapevine breeding. During the opening hours of the on-site wine shop, you can also take a look inside the courtyard of the former Cistercian monastery. At the wine shop and tasting room, you’ll find not only wines made from traditional grape varieties but also from new, fungus-resistant cultivars (PiWis).
Continue down the access road from Geilweilerhof to the German Wine Route. Cross the street carefully and follow the trail markers back up into the vineyards. On the way up, be sure to turn around every now and then, as there’s a beautiful view back toward the Geilweilerhof. Once you reach the top, you’ll look out over the neighboring village of Frankweiler and St. Anna Chapel, which sits above Burrweiler.
And soon the next view awaits you: a glimpse toward the Rhine Valley and the city of Landau. If you have good eyesight, you can also spot St. Mary’s Church with its two towers from here. Now the trail takes you a good distance downhill past the “Old Vineyard Peach Tree,” with a view of the Queich Valley and the village of Arzheim above it, and shortly thereafter, Siebeldingen and the Simultankirche.
Passing the Marienfelderhof and Siener-Dr. Wettstein wineries, you’ll reach the outskirts of Siebeldingen. Following Bismarckstraße—or, once you reach the Queich, Weinstraße—you’ll walk through the town and return to the train station.
