Roadbook
The route starts at the multi-generation house Heldburg. From the “Old Train Station” you walk through charming lanes, past gurgling fountains, through Heldburg. The town, guarded by the proud Veste, is a real feast for the eyes and offers a medieval picture-book backdrop. Along the Kirchbach at waypoint (WP) 67, past the fire pond and rector pond, you hike leisurely uphill to the Dreiherrenstein. Here turn right, passing the Höhenberg towards the “Seven Oaks”. Then you go downhill to the Gellershausen sports ground. In the village center there is the possibility to stop at the Kastanie guesthouse.
After a short walk on the country road towards Heldburg, turn right along the Kreck on the Gellershausen path back to the Heldburg starting point. The Veste Heldburg steadily moves into view. It is a true fairytale castle. In good weather, you are rewarded by the 45 m-high tower with a magnificent panoramic view. A detour to the castle hill is highly recommended.
