The Seeleinsee at 1809 m lies hidden in a hollow in the Hagengebirge. The small mountain lake attracts many hiking enthusiasts in summer. Several tours, including the so-called Kleine Reibn, pass by its shore. But even the ascent to the Seeleinsee alone is well worth it! The path leads us via the scenic Königsweg, past the quaint Priesbergalm and then through the spectacular Stiergraben, located between two rock walls, uphill. Only at the last moment does the Seeleinsee reveal itself as a sparkling jewel beneath the mighty Kahlersberg.
From the Hinterbrand parking lot, 1130 m, we follow the wide Königsweg that begins here. We pass the Jenner middle station, 1185 m, and go past several alpine pastures to the Priesbergalm, 1460 m. With views of the mighty Watzmann East Wall, we follow a narrow path past the staffed alpine hut into a forest. There we descend a few meters into the downhill ravine, 1451 m. At the subsequent fork, the path leading up to the left guides us into the wide, partly forested lower Stiergraben. The path becomes increasingly rocky as it steeply ascends through the steep trough valley between Tauern and Stierwand. In the upper section, we overcome karst and dwarf pine fields in numerous switchbacks until shortly before our destination at a fork, 1821 m. Here we follow the left path. After just a few minutes, the hidden Seeleinsee, 1809 m, appears below the path in a hollow. Beneath the Kahlersberg, the shimmering lakeshore is a wonderful place to relax. Return is via the outbound trail.
