Touristinformation Wertach
The Sebaldweg was established in memory of the writer W. G. Sebald. Born in Wertach, he was an important German writer of the post-war period, and many of his works gained international recognition. Six steles with excerpts from Sebald's book "Schwindel. Gefühle." have been set up along the Sebaldweg. They provide insight into the author's work and the original settings of his narrative.
The starting point of the hike is located at about 1200 m in Oberjoch, at the German-Austrian border. The path goes downhill through the picturesque Alpsteigtobel, where the first two steles are located. The third stele stands by the artistically restored Krummenbacher Chapel. The Sebaldweg then leads us to Unterjoch and from there along the Wertach River to the Vordere Sorg-Alpe, where we can stop for a break. The fourth stele is also there. Nearby is the Alpenhotel Pfeiffermühle, where we can also rest. Passing the village of Jungholz, the trail continues to the stele at "Engen Plätt" and from there to Wertach, where the last stele is located at the Starzlach bridge. The Sebaldweg ends at the author's birth house in the town.

The path starts at the border station (approx. 2 km from the Oberjoch bus stop) with the wild romantic Alpsteigtobel, where the first two steles are located. The third station follows at the Krummenbacher Chapel.
Then it continues towards Unterjoch, between the Krone guesthouse and the Wertach River towards Jungholz. Just before the Vordere Sorgalpe (a place to stop for refreshments) is stele number 4. From the Sorg-Alpe, it's only a short walk to the Alpenhotel Pfeiffermühle (rest and overnight possibilities). The route continues through the Jungholz campsite. After about 500 m on the paved road, you reach the Unterjoch-Wertach road. Here you cross the B310 and continue to the stele in "Engen Plätt."
Then follow the hiking trail directly next to the federal road, passing the Willer sawmill towards Wertach. The last stele is located on Alpenstraße. We hike to the intersection (Raiffeisenbank), then turn left, and about 100 m before the Mayr bakery, the birth house of W.G. Sebald is set back on the right, where a commemorative plaque is attached.
