Remote base at the Zmutt glacier. Still heavily frequented due to its location on the so-called Matterhorn Trail.
The hut is located on a grassy mountain ledge above the Zmutt glacier, opposite the Matterhorn. Classics such as the Dent Blanche, Pointe de Zinal, and the Obergabelhorn are not far away.
In winter the hut also serves as a base for ski crossings of the Valais Alps via La Haute Route.
Author’s recommendation
What you want to see in Zermatt definitely does not need to be repeated here.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.

From Zermatt station through the pedestrian zone to the south up to the parish church of St. Mauritius. A little further over the stream and then turn right onto Schälpmattgasse. Climb through this street to its end and continue along a path (Herbriggweg) until shortly before the cluster of buildings called Herbrig. There, at the junction, follow the lower path to the hamlet of Zmutt (approx. 1 1/2 hours).
From Zmutt, continue following the path further into the valley, past the former alpine pasture Chalbermatta until the path leads steeply down into the valley floor at a former side moraine at a junction. Be careful at this junction to definitely descend into the valley floor and not follow the slightly ascending path (barrier, leads into rockfall terrain!).
After the steep descent into the valley floor, now ascend again moderately to the Arben waterfall. At the waterfall, climb a steep rise and then continue flat until the junction to the Arben bivouac (approx. 1 3/4 hours).
From there, follow the signposted path along the moraine to the Schönbiel hut (approx. 1 1/4 hours).
