The Schneibstein has become the easiest accessible two-thousander in the Berchtesgaden Alps thanks to the construction of the Jennerbahn in the early 1950s (reconstructed from 2017 to 2019), and this is appreciated not only by ski tourers. In just a few hours of walking time, a truly magnificent view opens up, provided you use the ascent aid; otherwise, it takes considerably longer. As a small detour, the Jenner summit can also be included. The view down to the Königssee and the frontal view of the Watzmann East Face rising above it are truly impressive. The view is certainly one of the most beautiful in the entire Alps.
After taking the cable car from Königssee, head down from the Jennerbahn mountain station over steep switchbacks eastward (signposts) to the Jenner saddle. From there, a hiking trail leads with an open view to the left and right to the Hohe Brett, the second hut summit of the Stahlhaus. With slight ups and downs, it then takes about 30 minutes through mountain pines over to the Carl-von-Stahl-Haus (45 min.), where at the following path forks you take right once, then left (well signposted). The year-round operated alpine club house exudes coziness from the outside and is a good base for spending a night in the mountains. This also has the advantage of being able to start early and already enjoy the morning at the summit. Heinrich Bauregger, geboren 1951 im Berchtesgadener Land, studierte Germanistik und Geschichte (M.A.). Nach seinem Studium war er viele Jahre in Buchverlagen tätig (unter anderem auch beim Rother Bergverlag). Von Kindheit an in den Bergen wandernd unterwegs, lebte er seine Passion zunächst in den Alpen aus, dann folgten zahlreiche Trekkingtouren in den Bergen der Welt (Himalaya, Ostafrika, Mexiko, Anden). Schließlich entdeckte er die Abruzzen (Mittelitalien) als seine zweite Heimat („Tra Mare e Monti“). Heute lebt er abwechselnd in München und in Sulmona als freier Lektor und Autor. Er hat zahlreiche erfolgreiche Wander-, Rad- und Reisebücher verfasst.
