The Schlern is one of the best-known mountains in South Tyrol. It is considered the symbol of South Tyrol because of its distinctive shape with the two prominent peaks. You should climb the Schlern because of the great view it offers. The Seiser Alm, Europe’s largest high pasture, nestles against the Schlern. The Schlernhaus is South Tyrol’s largest mountain hut.
The hike begins on the Seiser Alm, at the parking lot or the cable car station in Compatsch (Spitzbühellift). From here, take path no. 10 (signposted “Schlernhaus”) and hike over the alpine meadows up to path no. 5, which leads to the Saltnerhütte. On a zigzag path, you walk slightly uphill to the Schlern plateau, where the Schlernhaus stands. The further ascent to the Petz summit is short. The descent takes place on the same route.
