Walked on 16.10.2022Roadbook
Start at the Siebenhütten hiking parking lot, where we first go right over a bridge over the Weißach and then continue south following the signpost to Siebenhütten on a wide, fairly level walking path.
We leave the serviced Siebenhüttenalm to the left and at the next fork turn right towards Schildenstein, Halserspitze and Gufferthütte.
The path becomes narrower, leading through beautiful beech forest from here and the incline increases slightly. Several flat sections follow and the Felsweissach is crossed at several points, where caution is advised at high water levels to avoid getting wet feet.
Finally, we reach a junction to the small Wolfsschlucht, but here you should keep right towards the large Wolfsschlucht.
Best to put away poles now, as the ascent through the gorge requires the use of hands in several places. The critical sections are all well secured with steel cables.
The overall steep ascent is very varied, with rocky and craggy sections here and there, then a narrow mountain path through open forest rather comfortably. In the last third, there is a sandy but secured crossing to overcome and finally after a few more minutes, we find ourselves at the saddle between Schildenstein and Blaubergkamm with the junction to Halserspitze.
Turn right there. The path now runs mostly level towards the northwest, the summit of our goal is already visible from afar.
A short stretch walks with only a slight incline over an almost treeless plain and soon reaches the right fork that leads us on the mountain path in another 15 minutes to the summit of Schildenstein. The last few meters get a bit rocky again and hands can ease the ascent.
The return takes a little more than 10 minutes back to the junction on the ascent, from there we go right and descend in several switchbacks to Königsalm or at the "Graseck" fork simply go straight ahead, which shortens the final descent to the valley by only a few minutes.
First, we descend over rocky terrain, soon enter an extensive beech forest and follow the signposts towards Siebenhütten parking lot or Wildbad Kreuth back to the starting point.
