The Scheichenspitze, the highest peak in the eastern Dachstein mountain range, does not have the attractive appearance of the higher neighbors around the Hoher Dachstein, but the summit view to the east is exceptionally photogenic, and the Ramsau via ferrata leading to it from the Edelgrießhöhe over the Schmiedstock – the most convenient access via the Dachstein cable car mountain station – attracts some visitors. It is accessible to hikers via the northwest flank. Those who dare more than a hike can ascend to the Scheichenspitze on the partially secured path from the Gruberscharte via the Hohe Rams. Whether a hiker can attempt this route can be easily tested, as the wire rope on the rocky northeast ridge of the Hohe Rams extends almost down to the Gruberscharte; the latter is clearly visible on the far right in the picture.
The first section of the trail leads behind Feisterer on route no. 616 past the oldest mountain maple in Ramsau (450 to 550 years old) and first along the west, then the east bank of the Feisterbach through the forest to the managed Lärchboden hut, which is located a few minutes to the right of the hut path and is a popular hiking destination. Then you continue over a dwarf pine slope to the material lift of the Guttenberghaus, then along the 'Fischermauer' and behind a ditch over a terrain step to the floor of the Tiefkar, rest bench. Numerous switchbacks wind from here over sheep pastures to the Guttenberghaus, which stands on a terrace above the Feisterkar. From the Guttenberghaus on path no. 618 westward, along the south flank of the Eselstein, over rocky terrain to the Gruberscharte. The easier path descends behind this into the floor of the Landfried valley and crosses it westward to a saddle (P. 2409), where it branches off to the left (path 673) and gains the Scheichenspitze
