On the western foothills of the Vogelsberg – harmoniously embedded in an idyllic natural landscape – the medieval town of Homberg an der Ohm majestically towers on a volcanic basalt ridge. Centuries-old town fortifications and watchtowers testify to the lively past and already make a walk through the narrow alleyways an experience. The dramaturge and designer of the route is the small Schächerbach, a three-kilometer-long tributary of the Ohm. It flows naturally through meadows, fields, and forests. The name comes from Middle High German: schachere = to rob, plunder. The very attractive pleasure route captivates with constant changes in landscape forms, a high proportion of natural paths through forest, meadow, and stream valleys, and many views. Interesting sites with stories and centuries-old legends make the route an unforgettable experience.
