The scenic route offers an easy and enjoyable family hike in Paljakka's beautiful fell and rural landscapes, yet very close to the center.
The scenic route suitable for families offers a diverse range of sights for nature lovers, from old spruce forests to beautiful rural idylls. The route starting from Paljakkakeskus initially follows mixed forests along the Louhenjoki and Savipaikankoski rivers and then climbs to the summit of Latvavaara. The old spruce forests of the nature reserve evoke a sense of mystery. Gradually, the nature reserve forests give way to magnificent fell scenery as you reach the highest point of the route. Before the viewpoint on top of the fell there is a lean-to shelter, which is an excellent resting place. After the fell scenery, you can enjoy rural idylls in summer. If you hear the sound of cowbells, you are already near. There is plenty for children to watch as cows chew hay in the pasture. Wander through the scenery surrounded by farmhouses and fields back to the shelter of the forest.

Tips and suggestions
The scenic route is a versatile route where you simultaneously experience the kingdom of Paljakka's tall spruces, the views of the fell area, and the Kotila area farms with their animals.Roadbook
The scenic route starts from the large parking area at the Paljakka tourist center, at the same point as the Fishing Trail and the Lynx Route. The route first meanders along the Savipaikankoski rapids, where there are beautiful rapid views. After this, there is a fairly long ascent to the top of Latvavaara, where the Lynx Route branches off to the northeast and the Scenic Route continues southeast.
After the ascent, you arrive at a nature reserve, so leaving the trail is prohibited. In the nature reserve, you walk south through an old spruce forest until the forest yields to magnificent fell scenery. At this stage, it's possible to take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee and some snacks at the Teeriharju lean-to shelter, which also has facilities for making a fire. The journey continues on top of Latvavaara and after the lean-to along easy sandy roads. Now is an excellent opportunity to visit the viewpoint to admire the fell scenery.
From the viewpoint, the route continues south along sandy roads until it briefly turns east. Beautiful mixed forest landscapes guide the visitor south, towards the rural idyll of Mikkola. The sandy road turns into asphalt, and the route continues until it turns back into the forest towards the west.
The route crosses Louhisuon and proceeds along the western slopes of Latvavaara back to the Paljakka tourist center.

Directions
- From Kajaani direction: 5 road from Kajaani approx. 40 km. From Ristijärvi, turn towards Puolanka (road no. 888) about 23 km. Turn right at the shop junction (Hoikanvaarantie) about 3 km. Turn right into the ski center.
- From Paltamo direction towards Puolanka about 25 km. Turn right towards Ristijärvi (road no. 888) about 10 km. Turn left 3 km from the shop junction and then turn right into the ski center.
- From Oulu direction. From Oulu to Utajärvi, then to Puolanka. Past Puolanka-Paltamo towards Kajaani about 26 km, then left (road no. 888) about 10 km. Turn left 3 km from the shop junction and then right into the ski center.
