Sardagna - The Chestnut Path
Rete di Riserve Bondone
An exciting route through chestnut groves, woods, meadows, and ancient terraced fields.
The proposed route starts from Sardagna and offers a circular tour through splendid chestnut groves, also providing beautiful panoramic views of the Adige Valley.
This green area is particularly important due to its remarkable naturalistic value. The presence of centuries-old chestnut trees, hazels, hornbeams, Scots pines, beeches, and field maples is interesting, which host numerous animal species.

Roadbook
This route can start from the village of Sardagna, or from Trento using the cable car, which is equivalent to an urban bus line. The description starts from the upper station of the cable car, in Sardagna. From the small square, you can enjoy a splendid view of the city of Trento, from the top of a corten steel structure that protrudes towards the abyss, also equipped as a small open-air theater. Descend towards the village, follow provincial road 85 without entering the center and follow the signs "Passo Camponzin", then traverse via del Ronco d'Andrea. Returning to the provincial road, a small descending path branches off to the right heading north into cultivated fields, where wooden signs of the Urban Trekking indicate the way to follow. Briefly ascend into the woods, now on a mule track, until reaching a cultivated area with a small hut. Continuing along the path, always heading north, you reach a crossroads; turning right, through the woods briefly leads to Parco de le Poze, in a beautiful chestnut grove with a panoramic view of the Adige Valley. Returning to the crossroads, turn right and reach the provincial road, which you follow uphill to the first of seven hairpin bends, where a path branches to the right that at a widening is left to the left for a small trail, which shortly leads to a resting point with two ruined huts and an overhanging chestnut grove. Ascending along the trail to the fifth hairpin bend, you meet signs indicating Passo Camponzin on one side and the continuation of the Chestnut Path on the other. After crossing the provincial road, follow a descending path towards the southeast, and after crossing a ravine, you reach a junction with a sign for Candriai. Take the path to the right and climb into a large chestnut grove, until reaching a dirt road. Follow the signs for Candriai, which lead to continue on the dirt road always heading southeast. After passing two wide curves, in an area characterized by beautiful specimens of chestnut trees, continue on the main road, ignoring the existing deviations. Descending, you reach a junction on a hairpin bend, characterized by a cross, where you continue descending, pass the intake of an aqueduct, and at the lower junction take the paved path heading southwest (to the right). Now ascend the valley of the Rio di Sardagna, cross it over a bridge, then descend to the left on a dirt road to reach another junction with a large wooden cross. Keeping right, enter another chestnut grove, descend on a small path to another dirt road, and continuing downhill you reach the road leading to the center of Sardagna village. Upon reaching the height of the church, it is possible to follow the road descending to the panoramic cemetery, with the small church of SS Filippo and Giacomo.
