Cala Llonga is one of Ibiza's scenic highlights, although the holiday resort itself is less so. Before the tourist era, there was absolutely nothing in the bay reminiscent of a fjord except fine sand and gentle waves. Today, during the high season, the beach can hardly cope with the influx of sun seekers. But the tour to the "long bay" is very charming. As a contrast to the architectural sins in Cala Llonga, a detour to Cala Blanca is worthwhile, where the island shows its wildest side.
The hike begins at the nicely designed beach promenade in the center of Santa Eulària. From the Rambla (Passeig s'Alamera) we head west along the city beach. The promenade leads straight to the wooded Puig d’en Pep, 243 m, and reaches after fifteen minutes the mouth of the river El Riu. We walk a short stretch inland, cross the wide river on a pedestrian bridge, and then return to the sea on the other riverbank. There the promenade continues for a short distance. At the end of the promenade, a coastal path begins. After the small bathing bay Caló de s’Alga in front of the Grand Hotel Palladium, we come a few minutes later to a striking, almost 2 m high stone cairn. At this point, we continue following our path, which leads slightly uphill along the seaward flank of Puig d’en Pep. The path merges into an unpaved track on which we continue left.
