Sanetsch-Muveran route stage 1: From Gsteig to Col du Sanetsch
The three-day Sanetsch-Muveran route begins in Gsteig in the Saanenland, where two very old buildings stand right in the village. The inn «Bären» dates from 1756, and the church is even a few years older, built in 1453. To the Lac de Sénin, in German: Sanetschsee, you can either ascend on a steep serpentine path or take the Sanetsch cable car, which was originally built for the construction of the power plant and dam but is now operated for tourism. The Sanetschsee lies on a high plateau, surrounded by steep mountain slopes such as Schluchhorn and Sanetschhorn, Arpelihorn and Arpelistock. To the south, the valley rises to the pass summit, where a road provides a bus connection to Sion in Valais. More romantic is the old mule track, which leads through a water-eroded meadow landscape up to the Sanetsch Pass.
