Unione dei Comuni Valli Taro e Ceno
The route starts from the town of Bore, a municipality with an important commercial history as it was the link to the main ducal centers of the Parma Apennines and presents itself crowned by centuries-old chestnut woods. Its territory dominates the lateral valley of the Ceno Stream: the Val Cenedola and acts as a watershed between the Province of Parma and that of Piacenza.
Human settlement in this area has assumed, in the architectural landscape, a typical characteristic maintained over time: that of the villas. The villas are enclosed agricultural courts where the lives of the families living there took place. Hence the toponym "Ville" given to the locations gravititating around the territory of Bore, whose names derive from the patriarchal property-owning and dominant families in each cluster.
Our route, starting from the historic center of Bore, aims to retrace its history and is marked with a white/red trail sign and the A10 indication. As soon as you leave the center, you enter the Bosco del Paradiso for a restorative walk in the quiet of nature until you reach Villa Mortarelli, cross it entering Villa Ferrari, then reach the hamlet of Villa Pereto with its Oratory of San Rocco, an example of the rich religious architectural heritage of these lands. The oratory, built in 1524, presents an external stone façade but is decorated in Baroque style inside. From here, a panoramic route offers a view over the underlying Val Cenedola and concludes with the passage through Villa Salvi to return to the center of Bore.
Author’s recommendation
From the Oratory of St. Rocco, along the panoramic road leading to Villa Salvi, be careful not to miss the oldest oak in the entire area.
