The fact that the mountain is called Windeck is, of course, no coincidence, and when the north foehn blows, the wind whistles quite fiercely up there, one and a half kilometers above the Tauferer Valley. The southeastern corner pillar of the Pfunderer Mountains is quite "exposed," but that also has its advantages. You notice this at the latest when you look around the (wide) surroundings: to the north, the three-thousand-meter peaks of the Zillertal main ridge are lined up like pearls on a string, to the south, the parade of the Dolomites. The valley views are very atmospheric, from Bruneck up to the wide, flat floor of Sand in Taufers, through the Reintal, above whose entrance the massive Große Moosstock, 3059 m, towers, and down into the Mühlwald Valley.
The summit hike begins in Platten quite comfortably on a forest road, the switchbacks just above the Tierstallerhof can also be shortened. Pleasantly shady uphill to the end of the (road) ascent; here a sign points left to Sambock. Along the "Pfunderer Höhenweg" past two huts, the so-called Stockpfarrer, 1962 m, then steeply uphill over a slope. The cross "Auf der Platten", 2175 m, remains to the left; the good markings guide you over the broad grass ridge, which only rises more steeply again towards the end, to the summit of Sambock, 2396 m. Here you not only have a magnificent view but also a sight connection to Windeck, 2418 m, the second summit goal. On the surprisingly rugged northern ridge of Sambock with some ups and downs (easy climbing sections, security installations) into a nameless hollow, 2365 m, then up over the rocky ridge, at the fork (sign) right and along the ridge to the "windy corner." Back to the fork and on the "Pfunderer Höhenweg" over the Bruggerspitze, 2428 m.
