Roßkunst Geopath - Harra
The Roßkunst Geopath leads past open adits, mining pits, and heaps where you can find your own souvenir and gain insight into the hard work of the miners.
The hike starts at the Saalebrücke Harra. You cross the bridge and after about 250 meters we find on the left below the old carriageway an open adit. The opening is about 0.7 m wide and 30 cm high. After the portal, the adit widens to 1.20 m high and 0.70 m wide. From here you can get an overview of the mine.
Continue uphill. About 50 m to the left after entering the forest, old carriageways appear in the bushes, which were previously used with carts and were relocated two or three times sideways when worn out.
After the climb, to the right is a very old mining pit area that has a spring intake. Water from the old adit supplies the homestead "Haus am Wald" with drinking water.
We reach a crossroads with 4 branching paths. On the left path about 250 m ahead there is a fenced memorial stone with 3 crosses and the year 1779. It is assumed that here an adult person with two children died (lightning strike or accident).
Back on the circular route, to the right and left extend the mining pits of the Hundszug and Roßkunst over a larger area. Roßkunst consists of a large slag heap, a hoisting shaft, a driving shaft, and a hoisting shaft from which water was drawn. Furthermore, a dam can be seen, which held a drain tunnel. Under the water shaft there is a light and air hole. 100 m further downhill is the drainage adit of Roßkunst.
The mining pit area of Hundszug to the left of the path is characterized by large pits lying in dense woods.
After another 3 km we turn left onto the path at the Galgersbach heading towards the valley. Following the stream for about 1 km is the Kluft mine with the affiliated Sechse and Hornzug shafts. They are distinguished by numerous pits and large heaps that characterize the valley floor on both sides. At the Saale riverbank is the accessible drainage adit of Kluft, in which water reaches a height of about 80 cm. It goes about 150 m deep into the mountain.
Below the Harra tree nursery, behind a broken rock, we find the open portal of an old mine. Visible are groin holes in the rock, indicating active mining activity.
We walk back over the bridge to Harra. In the retaining wall of the palace garden is the entrance to the former storage cellar of the Harra manor.
