Rosenmüller Cave - Schwingbogen
The Rosenmüller Cave is one of the oldest tourist destinations in the Franconian Switzerland. Today, the former show cave is freely accessible, and not least for this reason, only a fraction of the stalactite formations for which it was once famous can still be found there. Nevertheless, it remains a fascinating adventure to penetrate this mysterious mountain interior in the narrow beam of a flashlight. Unlike the Rosenmüller Cave, independent exploration of the Schönstein Cave is not recommended: with the approximately 600-meter-long maze of passages and shafts up to 20 meters deep, it is really no joke. It is better to trust professional guidance here so that unpleasant surprises can be avoided.
We leave Muggendorf together with the blue circle and red vertical bar and hike steeply up the mountain. After about 100 m, the markings lead to the left. The blue circle soon branches off to the left, but we continue straight ahead with the red vertical bar through a beautiful lime tree avenue, until this one also points to the left. Shortly afterwards, the marking continues uphill on the right by means of stair steps. Below these stairs, a path (Ww.) leads to the Rosenmüller Cave. About 30 m further is a paved viewpoint. From the cave back to the stairs and uphill with the red vertical bar and the Ww. "Brunhildenstein, Streitberg." After the highest point and a short descent along the rocky ridge, a Ww. indicates the worthwhile detour to the viewing platform at Brunhildenstein.
