This premier hike follows the main ridge of the Rosalien Mountains and takes us over the Rosalien Summit, the Steinkogel with its observation deck, the Gespitzter Riegel, and the Mitterriegel. This trail is ideal as a descent hike because it means you won’t have to rely on the very infrequent bus at the end, and the only places to stop for refreshments are located at the very end of the hike.
At the Rosalia Chapel bus stop near the Rosalienhäuser, we take a paved footpath up to the Rosalia Chapel, where there are benches and a lookout point with a view stretching across Lake Neusiedl. We follow the white-red-white trail markers—which will guide us until just before our destination—down the other side of the summit, past a transmission tower, and arrive at a signpost where we follow the “Wiener Alpenbogen” hiking trail toward Katzelsdorf and the Eichbüchl viewpoint. We descend along a forest path to a saddle, where we cross a road. After that, the trail goes briefly uphill, then downhill again through the forest to a forest road, where we reach the White Cross after just a few meters.Continuing along the forest road, we reach the Tobiaskreuz; then we head uphill again on a footpath over the Krieriegel, where we cross the right-of-way of a gas pipeline. Shortly afterward, a steep path branches off to the left, leading up to the observation deck on the Steinkogel (benches). On
