The 703 m high Roque de Taborno, also called the "Matterhorn of Tenerife," is by no means one of the highest peaks, but certainly one of the most distinctive on the island. Up close, the summit does not quite live up to the promise it holds from afar, but the breathtaking views down to the coast during the occasionally somewhat airy tour at the foot of the summit formation make up for it.
From the bus stop in the center of Las Carboneras, we walk 100 m back along the main road and turn left opposite the bar-restaurant Valentin onto a small road, from which after 50 m (in the left curve) the old connecting path to Taborno branches off (PR TF 9, white-yellow). It leads briefly down between terraced fields and then runs roughly at the same elevation along the slope. After 5 minutes we pass a power pole, shortly after a second one. Then the path descends through terraces and scrub forest into a valley cut. Shortly after the Barranco de Taborno (just over 15 minutes), we ignore a left-branching path (to Las Carboneras) – our route now climbs steeply to the road to Taborno, which takes us left in 10 minutes into the scenic village perched on a mountain ridge.Passing the chapel on the right, we continue our hike.
